Superbosses

From Ethene

Similar to other MMOs or the rest of the series, Dragon Quest X has a handful amount of superbosses added through some of the later versions, unlike the average bosses available through the main story, these require strategy and make the most use of all the vocations available. To make the entry point more easy for new players getting into these bosses, most of these have different levels of difficulty between I through V.

Version 3: War of Everdarkness (常闇の聖戦)

This endgame content consists of fights against powerful bosses inhabiting the continent of Nadragand. Starting in v3.1 and throughout the rest of version 3, three bosses were added in three different realms. The strength of each one used to depend on what the current time (JST) was, but since v5.0 they included a fifth difficulty (Strength V) and the ability to select the Strength by yourself. Examine the teleportal next to the NPC with Dragonite in hand and you will be teleported to the battle. You'll have 20 minutes to finish it, after which you will be booted out.

Unlock Requirements

  • Clear v3.1 Story (v3.3 and v3.5 for the subsequent bosses)

About Dragonite

As mentioned before, you need a material item called Dragonite to start a battle. You can begin collecting them by talking to one of the guide NPC (Prinella, Management Terminal Q485, or Dark). They have an option to cast a charm spell on you, which grants you a 100% chance to get Dragonite Shards as a drop from a monster selected by the NPC (there's also a 10% chance to get a full Dragonite as a drop). If you want to double check which monster this is after the spell is cast, you can see by going to Stats > <your character> > Current Effects.

After collecting enough shards, go to the corresponding NPC, and you can exchange 10 Dragonite Shards for 1 Dragonite.

This monster won't change until the next day at 6:00 JST, and it can be one of the following:

You can also buy Dragonite through the Bazaar if you don't want to spend time grinding.

If you manage to defeat the boss, the 5 Dragonite you used will be consumed. Losing the battle or running out of time won't consume them.

Following the War of Everdarkness, this content is the most difficult battle content in Dragon Quest X. During v4 through v5, six different bosses were added to Astoltia's arsenal of superbosses. The strength of each one used to depend on what the current time (JST) was but, since v6.2 the strength can be selected from 1 to 4. Hand 10 Demonbreaker Stones to the corresponding Guidance Crystal, select your difficulty and you have a limit of 20 minutes to finish the battle.

About Demonbreaker Stones

Before being able to start any of the fights you need to have at least 10 Demonbreaker Stones. Unlike the grinding for Dragonite, if you talk to Uriel he will tell you about the monsters who drop the stones without the need of a spell to increase the drops to 100%. This makes them easier to grind, and you can bring a Thief along (or be one yourself) to increase the amount dropped. These are the monsters who drop them:

If you don't want to grind, you can always buy them on the Bazaar if you have enough Gold. If you manage to defeat the boss, the 10 Demonbreaker Stones you used will be consumed. Losing the battle or running out of time will not consume them.

The Superbosses

As mentioned in the beginning, every boss has a Guiding Crystal, interacting will teleport you to the corresponding Guardian Ward and the fight will start:
